Aren’t We All Just People?
Much has been said in the past year about the possibility of legalizing same-sex marriage. Several states have already done so, and several more are considering it. Many people who are opposed to this believe that allowing people of the same sex to marry will destroy the sanctity of marriage or make a mockery of it. I don’t believe that’s true. I believe the only people who can destroy a marriage are the people in the marriage. If you really want to use the argument of not allowing someone to marry in order to protect the institution of marriage, consider the following:
Larry King – 8 divorces
Jesse James and Tiger Woods – each had sex with multiple partners while married
Kelsey Grammer – ended his 15 year marriage over the phone
Phil Collins – ended his marriage by sending his wife a text message
Kim Kardashian – spent $10 million on her wedding, only to file for divorce 72 days later
Britney Spears – married a childhood friend…for 55 hours
Newt Gingrich – cheated on first and second wives while they were seriously ill. Used the daughters of the first wife to tell the world that his second wife was lying about his third wife
Anthony Weiner – texted nude pics of himself to his followers (granted, he only meant to send it to one woman) while still a newlywed
Herman Cain – accused of sexual harassment and had a long-term affair that ended just prior to running for the GOP nomination
Mark Stouder – Republican from Indiana who extolls family values made a video in which he praised the virtues of sexual abstinence. But the video was made with a female staffer with whom he was having an affair
This list goes on and on…
These are the kinds of people who make a mockery of marriage. How about we ban them from marrying and allow same-sex couples who are committed to each other to tie the knot?
After all, we’re all just people….
